By uidesigner on March 20th, 2009 This topic has been blowing up all over the design world online. For the full blog post from Bowman Lead Visual Designer at Google visit his blog.
The quick summary is this. He left because of design V.S. engineering issues. The article goes on to talk about the almost obsessive need to validate and back up every design decision with statistical data. While it is true that design does have a logical component a lot of how we precieve design varies from person to person. That is why it is necessary to hire a person with experience and knowledge of fundamental design principles.
By uidesigner on March 16th, 2009 Wow, day 3 was incredible. Two of the panels were fantastic. One was beyond fantastic. Of course, if you were at the conference you know I”m talking about the panel “UX team of one.”
By uidesigner on March 14th, 2009 Last night was my little get together of UI Designers. It was smaller than I had hoped but there was still a lot of interesting conversation. This morning I was working in the hall when I stopped Robert Hoekman to say hi. I figure I should, since in about 1 hour I’m heading off to his panel at the Hilton “The 7 Rules of Great Wep Application Design. It should be a great presentation.
By uidesigner on March 13th, 2009 Well I arrived here after drivine 4 hours through some really crappy weather. Then I could not find parking close to the convention center, and then the line. The line was about 3 times longer than last year.
I’m in the DAY stage cafe listening to the Author of Principles of Beautiful design. He seems to be a very nervous speaker, yet knowledgable. It’s the only thing I was able to attend today because of the traffic and the 60 minute wait in the line.
It’s the question and answer session. I must admit I’m not into a full learning mode yet. I have to get my brain and rest of my body wired for the crazyness. I’m sure it will kick in soon enough.
In about 5 hours my design gather begins. I am super excited. 30 some people said they will be coming. I feel like I should prepare a speech. (But I won’t).

By uidesigner on February 25th, 2009 Welcome to my three part series (so far), delving into real world UI experiences in relation to Agile Development Methodologies. In these three parts I will explore solutions, problems, and suggestions for dealing with the various phases of an agile development cycle. More importantly, this will be from the point-of-view of a UI designer.
By uidesigner on February 18th, 2009 The other day I was pumping some gas at the gas station only to be accosted by the latest in drive by guerilla marketing. Nowadays, it is quite common to find little kiosks setup outside of major business selling everything from makeup to car polisher. It’s as if the strip mall has come to us. It’s like carnies are part of everyday life now. And this is where my story begins – (cue flashback).
